What is a common clinical presentation of C. diff infection?

A common clinical presentation of Clostridium difficile (C. diff) infection is abdominal tenderness. C. diff infections typically manifest with gastrointestinal symptoms, and one of the hallmark features is abdominal pain or tenderness, often accompanied by profuse diarrhea. This abdominal discomfort is due to inflammation of the colon, known as colitis, which occurs as a result of the toxins produced by the C. diff bacteria.

Other symptoms may include fever, nausea, and a notable increase in the frequency and urgency of bowel movements. While the other symptoms listed, such as chest tightness, headaches, and skin rashes, can be associated with various other conditions, they are not characteristic of a C. diff infection. Therefore, abdominal tenderness is the most relevant and recognized sign of this type of gastrointestinal infection.
