What is a common symptom of C. diff infection?

A common symptom of a Clostridium difficile (C. diff) infection is watery diarrhea. This infection often arises following the use of antibiotics, which disrupt normal gut flora and allow C. diff to proliferate. The bacteria produce toxins that irritate the lining of the intestines, leading to inflammation and resultant symptoms. Watery diarrhea is a primary indicator of the infection and can be quite severe, sometimes resulting in dehydration or more serious complications if not treated promptly. Other symptoms can accompany this, but watery diarrhea remains the hallmark of a C. diff infection.
